Mumbai Police gets Notice In Ekta Kapoor vs Hindustani Bhau Case:

Mumbai court has issued a formal notice to the city police for missing a deadline to submit its investigation into a complaint against producer Ekta Kapoor.

The court had ordered the police to submit their inquiry report by May 9. However, police failed to meet this deadline, prompting the court on July 4, 2025 to issue a “show cause” notice—asking the police to explain why they missed it.

Back in February, the Bandra magistrate’s court directed the Khar police to investigate a criminal complaint lodged under Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. This section allows the court to initiate or direct a police inquiry into allegations made.

The complaint was filed by Vikas Pathak, popularly known as Hindustani Bhau. He accused producer Ekta Kapoor, her OTT platform Alt Balaji, and her parents—Shobha and Jeetendra Kapoor—of showing disrespect toward Indian soldiers in one of Alt Balaji’s web series.

The complainant alleged that the series included a scene depicting a military officer involved in an explicit sexual act while wearing an army uniform featuring the national emblem. He discovered the scene around May 2020 and called it "cheap" and "shameless," claiming it hurt national pride, leading to the police complaint.

This isn't the first time that an OTT platform showed vulgar content and hurt the sentiments of viewers, be it about nationalism, sexism, relationships, or personal lives. It is also not the first time for Alt Balaji, so the verdict matters a lot since it is expected to set new restrictions for the OTT creators.
