Mufasa The Lion King Box office:
Disney's latest live-action flick, Mufasa The Lion King, opened in cinemas with little buzz last Friday. The film was projected to make around $50-55 million at the domestic box office, which was already a low estimate. However, the film has fallen far behind those expectations as well.
Mufasa has a stunningly low opening, and it has been overshadowed by a smaller film like Sonic The Hedgehog 3, which turned out to be the number one film at the North American box office this weekend. The prequel to Disney's blockbuster The Lion King has clearly failed to make an impact at the box office, whether domestically or in the overseas market.

The new tale of Mufasa earned approximately $35 million in its opening weekend, which is $156 million lower than the opening total of The Lion King (2019). Barry Jenkins' larger-than-life tale cost $200 million in production, and with such a low start, things could go terribly wrong for the film. With the Christmas and New Year holidays approaching, the film may still reach a respectable total, albeit at a low level, which won’t change its fate but will provide some numbers to discuss.
In international markets, Mufasa roughly made $87 million, bringing its global total to $122 million for the weekend. A tough road lies ahead for Disney's prequel; can it hold its ground.
