Rating: 3.5/5 stars

Baaghi 2 was always pitched as a hardcore action entertainer. The franchise pretty much stands for that, Tiger Shroff's image build up is on the same lines as well, while director Ahmed Khan too knew that if came to enticing the masses, the film had to boast of larger than life screen appeal.

Well, the good news is that the film delivers exactly what it promised!

It was never meant to be an intellectually stimulating experience. For a film like this, suspension of disbelief is a core requirement by all means. This means if a young 20 something soldier turns into a one man army, wears a Rambo avtar and kills 20 people in one go, the makers don't even have to make an effort to show how it really happened.

Shot 1: 20 guerillas surround Tiger

Shot 2: Each one of them is lying on the ground.

No explanation, no clarification, no justification - just quick and dirty justice!

This is exactly what Tiger does in this film that actually goes a bit serious in establishing something like a core plot. So a young girl gets kidnapped, her mother <Disha Patani> calls ex-boyfriend for help, the world <Manoj Bajpayee, Randeep Hooda, Darshan Kumar, Prateik Babbar> is against the two of them and yet eventually all has to be well.

baaghi2-rev-2Well, almost!

That's because in the midst of it all there are flashback sequences that make you a bit weary, especially in the first half. Fair enough, so a love story had to be established. However, a couple of back to back happy-sad romantic numbers and then a couple of more forced item numbers don't really do justice to the hardcore action appeal that Baaghi 2 came up with. Yes, the songs are all fine as standalone pieces but what you look forward to is action, and then more of that right through the film's narrative.

This is the reason why even when just a couple of action sequences appear in the first half of the film (especially the one in the police station), you whistle around with glee. The interval point sets the stage well too and then there is no looking back in the second half. The film becomes much faster paced in this part of the film and as one secret after another is unveiled, you are hooked. Yes, a lot of it sounds unbelievable and at times you also wonder aloud why there were complex routes taken for some simple problem statements (not just by the leading man but even the villains). However, you play along.

baaghi2-rev-4No wonder, the real 'paisa vasool' moments of the film come in during the last 30-40 minutes when Tiger enters the villain's camp. From this point on there is no looking back as not just dozens but hundreds of bodies begin to pile up. None of that is repulsive though as there is no bloodshed per se, just bone crunching happening in abundance. Moreover, it is also done in a video game fashion that makes it an entertaining experience, especially if seen amidst hundreds of cheering patrons at a single screen theater.

Baaghi 2 has the mass experience going for it and after Kick, producer Sajid Nadiadwala has gone ahead and delivered yet another high octane action entertainer that caters to the 'aam junta'. The film has already embarked on a tremendous start and days to come would be a testimony to how audiences grab it further with both hands and make it a huge success.
