Filmmaker Mohit Suri has finally spoken up on the ongoing controversy surrounding Deepika Padukone and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga regarding their stalled collaboration Spirit. In a recent interview with NDTV, Suri commented on the issue that made headlines a few weeks ago, where reports claimed Deepika exited the film due to creative differences and discomfort with the filmmaker’s approach.

While Suri didn’t name Deepika directly, his comments were seen as a veiled dig. "To each their own," he said, "but I think it depends on the kind of budget you're working with. I don’t think any director wants to make anyone work beyond what’s required. No one’s sadistic enough to unnecessarily torture someone."

The Aashiqui 2 director emphasized that filmmaking is a collaborative effort where everyone is aware of the conditions before they come on board. "You have a choice to be a part of something or not. But what I think is unfair is when someone comes in and starts dictating terms after signing on. You knew what the project entailed—the constraints, the realities," he said.

He concluded by pointing out that the heart of the issue is not creative, but financial. "Let's be honest, the root of this debate is not personal. It’s a budget issue. That’s the reality," he said.

Reportedly, Deepika demanded a 8-hour shift due to her motherhood duties and Vanga wasn't okay with it. He replaced her with Triptii Dimri, who will be seen playing a doctor and Prabhas' love interest in the action drama. The film will soon go on floors.
