Celebrated Indian filmmaker Mani Ratnam got admitted to Chennai’s Apollo Hospital on Sunday and rumours suggested that he had to be rushed to the hospital due to cardiac issues.
However, it seems that he was there only for routine checkup. Mani Ratnam has not only got discharged but the ace filmmaker has also resumed office. Mani Ratnam had suffered a heart attack on the sets of his multi-starrer Yuva in 2004. In 2015, he was flown down from Srinagar, where he was vacationing, to New Delhi for treatment related to heart issues. In 2018 also reports about his cardiac issues resurfacing did rounds.
On work front, he has teamed up with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for his next, which is based on a historical Tamil novel titled Ponniyin Selvan, written by Kalki. It’s a period drama set during the rule of the Chola dynasty and the former beauty queen will play a power-hungry woman in the movie.
The film is set in the 10th century before Rajaraja Chola became the king. Reportedly, Aishwarya is playing Nandini, the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, who served as the chancellor and treasurer of the Chola kingdom. Her character is a mysterious, power-hungry woman who manipulates her husband to plan the downfall of the Chola Empire as she was wronged by them.
However, the film, which also stars Vikram, Simbu, Jayaram Ravi and Amala Paul, has run into trouble as Lyca Productions, the banner which was bankrolling the movie, has backed out. Wonder if this is what is troubling the filmmaker.
"With Masters in Mass Communications, this former beauty queen has an opinion on just about everything under the sun and even beyond that. Her passion for writing and everything that spells films and fashion, are the reasons why she made a career in entertainment journalism"
