Kajol starrer Devi is a hard-hitting short film, which narrates a soul-stirring story, about the sorry state of women in our country, which will leave you stunned and teary-eyed. The film revolves around nine women (a juxtaposition of the nine avatars of Goddess Durga), who inspite of coming from distinct startas of society, have many differences, but with one thing in common, ie they are all victims of abuse.

Recently an ex- film making student from Asian Academy of Film and Television Noida, named Abhishek Rai, has accused the makers of Devi with allegations of plagiarism. He claimed that Kajol starrer short film Devi, is identical to his five and a half minute film titled Four. Four released in June 2018, and has the same concept, with three rape victims, instead of nine stories of nine women in Devi. He further added that the film is an intellectual property of Asian Academy of Film & Television and no one has contacted him regarding any kind of query. He also shared his plans on taking legal action about this issue of plagiarism.

Rai's Facebook post reads,

"Here's something I'd like to bring to everybody's notice. We at AndaKurry Productions, made a short film when we were in film school, two years back called 'FOUR' that dealt with a premise of rape victims sitting together in a room when a new victim arrives. And yesterday, a film named 'Devi' was uploaded to LargeShortFilms's YouTube channel that has heavy resemblance and the premise is also of the film we made,"

"Our film was a student (film) with very little production design, bad audio and stuff, but still it's a child of our own imagination and it's ruthless how anyone can just pick up a piece of thought and claim it to be theirs. The film is an intellectual property of the Asian Academy of Film & Television"

Directed by Priyanka Banerjee, and produced by Niranjan Iyengar and Ryan Ivan Stephen, Devi also stars Neha Dhupia, Neena Kulkarni, Shruti Haasan, Mukta Barve, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Sandhya Mhatre, Rama Joshi and Rashaswini Dayama in pivotal roles.
