Maalik Opening Weekend Box Office Update:
Rajkummar Rao's gangster drama Maalik, directed by Pulkit, had a below-average opening weekend at the Indian box office. Despite its gritty tone and mass appeal, the film failed to pull large crowds over its first three days.
Maalik collected ₹3.50 crore nett on Friday. The collections showed some growth on Saturday with ₹5.25 crore nett, but it stayed flat on Sunday, earning another ₹5.25 crore. This brings the total to an estimated ₹14 crore nett after the first weekend. Given the film's scale and the buzz around its release, the numbers are disappointing. Also, there was no growth on Sunday, which means there is not much appreciation for the film amongst masses.

The film stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, playing a rising gangster, with Manushi Chhillar as the female lead. The film has been hit by competition from films like Sitaare Zameen Par, F1 The Movie, Superman and Jurassic World Rebirth.
Maalik will now aim for a first-week total of over ₹20 crore nett and hopes to cross ₹25 crore in its lifetime. However, trade experts feel that unless the film shows a strong hold during weekdays and a good second weekend, it may end up being a box office flop. The breakeven mark for the film is reportedly around ₹40 crore nett, which looks like a tough target at this stage.
All eyes are now on the film’s weekday trend to see if it can gain momentum and avoid an early exit from theatres. It has beaten its direct competitor Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, though, which collected approx. 1 crore nett in the opening weekend.
