'Kiss Miss': Bollywood's Lesbian Tales

A TVC titled The Visit, which features a lesbian couple preparing to meet their parents, has taken the nation by storm as this is India's first ad to feature a lesbian couple! However, when it comes to Bollywood, lesbianism is not a new topic. Let us have a look at some of the films that explored the issue of lesbianism on the silver screen...

Fire:

The Indian media went crazy over a lesbian love-making scene between Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das in the controversial 1996 film Fire, which was directed by Deepa Mehta. At the time, right-wing outfits took to violence in protest and also vandalized some cinema-halls that were screening the film.

Girlfriend:

In 2004, Amrita Arora and Eesha Koppikar set screens ablaze with their raunchy scenes in Girlfriend, an erotic thriller. Though the film did not work at the box office, the two actresses were talked about a lot for their uninhibited lesbian scenes.

Heroine:

Kareena Kapoor too got drunk and naughty with co-star Shahana Goswami in Madhur Bhandarkar's 2012 film Heroine, which explored the struggles of a female superstar. The scene in question showed Kareena's character getting drunk with her friend Shahana, after which, they go to the bedroom and presumably end up making out.

Dedh Ishiya:

The 'dhak dhak' dame Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi too set tongues wagging with their secret love affair in Dedh Ishqiya, the sequel to Ishqiya, which also starred Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi.

Ragini MMS 2:

Balaji flick Ragini MMS 2 was described as a Horrex (horror plus sex), for all the right reasons. When it comes to raunchy scenes, Sunny Leone has to make her presence felt, which she did in Balaji flick Ragini MMS 2, in which she locked lips with her co-star Sandhya Mridul.

Margarita With A Straw:

Kalki Koechlin, who played a girl affected with cerebral palsy, also experimented with her sexuality by ending up in a relationship with a visually impaired girl in the much-acclaimed Margarita With A Straw.

Not only this, Kalki also got naughty with Deepika Padukone while at a photoshoot for magazine Harper's Bazaar. The two actresses were seen having a good time and the two lovely ladies also posed as if gearing up for  a passionate kiss.
