Remaking regional films from Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam industries is nothing new for Bollywood filmmakers. Some filmmakers have made it a habit while some have keen interest on choosing selected movies for remake. Bollywood Producer, Director Karan Johar has remade some great films recently and some of them are yet to go floors.
While his next remake of Malayalam film Driving License is still at pre-production stage, the filmmaker has grabbed the rights for another remake from South. Mari Selvaraj's highly acclaimed Pariyerum Perimal is one of the highest rated Tamil Film on IMDb and now KJO will be producing the hindi remake of it.
A source close to production reveals, "This is the first Tamil film that Karan has acquired the rights to remake. He has remade films from other languages — English, Hindi and Marathi. But he is now looking at remaking Pariyerum Perumal."
KJO has already remade Nagraj Manjule's Marathi Film Sairat and co-incidentally the storyline of Tamil film falls in similar zone. "Like Dhadak, Pariyerum Perumal, which means ‘the God who mounts a horse’ and is also the name of the lead character in the film, is a love story between a boy and a girl belonging to different castes. The movie revolves around Perumal ordeals of being with the love of his life," adds a source.
