Kantara Chapter 1 Release Halted Over Profit-Sharing Dispute:
The release of Kantara Chapter 1, starring Rishab Shetty, has been stalled in Kerala because of a disagreement over how theatre profits will be shared.
According to reports, Prithviraj Productions — which has the rights to distribute the film in Kerala — is asking for 55% of the theatrical collections during the first two weeks. Exhibitors in Kerala object to this demand, saying that the usual agreement for films is a 50% profit share, not 55%.
The Film Exhibitors Union of Kerala (FEUOK) has taken a firm stand: they will not screen Kantara: Chapter 1 in Kerala until the distributor agrees to their terms. FEUOK’s president, K. Vijayakumar, has also pointed out a related concern: producers of Malayalam films often receive only about 40% share when their films are released outside the state, so this demand seems unusually high. "Why are these distributors so adamant about helping other language producers make gains when our producers don’t get that much share," he was quoted saying as per MidDay.
