She's graduated from 'Gangster' girl to being the love interest of a don in 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai'. Kangna Ranaut, National Award winner for 'Fashion' ('Best Supporting Actress'), however, is a wee rankled at media insinuations that her character is patterned on a real life character.
"I'm not playing Haji Mastan's wife in the film," asserts Kangy. "And once you see the film you'll know that. In fact, my role in 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai' is not based on any real life character. Maybe, the film might have been a bit inspired by Haji Mastan's life, but it is not his biography which we have filmed."
Her 1970s retro 'look' in ' Once Upon?' has already fetched her innumerable gushing messages and Kangy states, "It was very challenging to recreate a character from a period of which I knew nothing!"
Explains Kangy, "For a period film one needs to research a lot. Looks, clothes and hairstyles are not the only important things for a period film, we also needed to search the right locations for it. Also if there is a crowd of 1000 people in the background, they all need to be dressed like they used to in the 1970s! We have shot in about 80 locations as compared to a normal film that has 20 to 25 locations. We used to change locations almost everyday!"
