22nd May 2015 - This was that eventful day when Tanu Weds Manu Returns released. The film turned out to be an eye opener for many in the industry as it just didn't open well but also went on to do a business of over 150 crore. In the times when the films with the biggest of stars struggle to reach this magical number, the Kangana Ranaut starrer managed to do this without much ado. As a matter of fact she even managed to earn a National Award for her performance.
24th February 2017 - Now Kangana is back with a biggie in an author backed avtar and one expects nothing less from her in Rangoon.
"This is the longest wait that an actress could have gambled with, especially when she is at her peak," comments an insider, "When you are at the top of your game, you go ahead and sign a series of films. You make sure that you are seen more often, be it in a lead role or even cameos for friends. You keep up the appearances and at least announce a flurry of films, even with no real intent of doing them eventually. However, Kangana did none of that. She concentrated entirely on Rangoon."
Even though this meant that in the interim period there were certain personal controversies that threatened to dilute the euphoria of the career high that she was going through, the extensive shooting schedule of the Vishal Bhardwaj directed period drama kept her busy.
"There was a delayed release of Sunny Deol led I Love NY though, which she stayed away from," an observer comments, "Also, Katti Batti came too but as Kangana is acknowledging too, she didn't really have a major part to play in the Imran Khan led affair. It is instead Rangoon where she was channelizing all her energy. Only when all the groundwork had been done for the film did she eventually go on to start Simran."
With a gap of 21 months between her Blockbuster affair Tanu Weds Manu and now Rangoon, Kangana is indeed an ace that is up the sleeves of producer Sajid Nadiadwala.
"He anyways managed to get Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor together for a film, something that no one in the industry had even thought of. The fact that his director Vishal Bhardwaj has brought out their career best performance as Langda Tyagi in Omkara and Guddu/Charlie in Kaminey helped too. With Kangana coming in the fold as well, Sajid knew that the film had to live up to the huge expectations. He has spared no expenses to make it a lavish affair. His cast deserved nothing lesser and his set up warranted that as well," a trade guru adds.
Meanwhile, for Kangana this is one film where she has to resume her big screen rendezvous with a bang. Expectations are huge and if the promos are any indication, her portrayal of Julia would find a lot of attention coming her way in quick time.
