Kajol has marked her digital debut with a short film titled Devi and the soul-stirring short, which talks about the sorry state of women in our country, will leave you stunned and teary-eyed.

The film revolves around nine women (probably a juxtaposition of the nine avatars of Goddess Durga), who are inside a room doing their own thing. They come from distinct startas of society and have their differences, but can't do much about it as they have been forced to stay together. But you soon realize that they have one thing in common- they are victims of abuse.

A heated argument starts among the ladies as their doorbell rings. Their room is overcrowded and they don’t want to share their space with anyone else after much deliberation they open the door for the person outside and when their new guest enters, their reaction is the same as the audience’s. The climax will give you a rude shock and will leave you in tears.

The movie brings to our notice that each day more than 90 rape cases are registered in India and that there are more than 100,000 pending rape cases in our courts, with conviction rate being just 32%. From marital rapes to gang rapes, the short film discusses it all. It talks about how convicts often go scot-free because of their age (juveniles) or political connections.

The film also stars Neha Dhupia, Shruti Haasan, Neena Kulkarni, Mukta Barve, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Yashaswini Dayama, Sandhya Mhatre and Rama Joshi and all the actresses have delivered power-packed performances. The cinematography is top-notch and Priyanka Banerjee, the director and writer of the movie, needs to be applauded for making this gem.

This film is a hard-hitting tale of sisterhood and suffering and is a must watch.
