David Dhawan is gearing up to direct the remake of his 1995 release Coolie No. 1. Sara Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan will play the lead role in the movie and now, the makers have roped in Johnny Lever too to play a pivotal role.
While Sara and Varun are stepping into Karisma Kapoor and Govinda’s shoes, Johnny Lever will be playing the role of a cop, which was played by Tiku Talsania in the original. Paresh Rawal will be playing Sara’s father in the movie. The role was played by Kader Khan in the original. Johnny Lever has previously worked with David Dhawan in films like Deewana Mastana, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge and Judwaa 2 and he is excited to work with him again.
Talking about the movie, David Dhawan had earlier said, “After re-watching the original, I started working on the script. For six months, I wondered if I should make it or not. Finally, I decided to adapt it. It’s actually a new film, I’ve worked on it for almost a year with the original writer Rumi Jaffery on the screenplay and Farhad Samji on the dialogue.”
The film’s team will head to Bangkok in August for the first schedule and after completing it, they will jet off to Goa for the second schedule. Coolie No. 1 will release on May 1, 2020.
