Jani Master's National Award suspended:
Shaik Jani Basha, popularly known as choreographer Jani Master, was apprehended by the Cyberabad Police a few weeks ago in a sexual assault case. A female assistant who worked with him in 2020 claimed that Jani assaulted her sexually several times and warned her not to tell the matter to anyone.
He was taken in for 14-day judicial custody and then was granted bail to attend the National Film Award ceremony. However, the National Film Awards cell has now suspended his award and invitation for the prestigious award ceremony.
The National Film Awards committee declared the awards for 2022, and Jani won the Award for Best Choreography for Dhanush's song Megham Karukkatha from the Tamil film "Thiruchitrambalam" (shared with choreographer Sathish Krishnan). Now the same committee has suspended his award amidst the ongoing POCSO matter, which is termed a very serious affair.
