Its Dr Shabana now

First there was Dr Lata Mangeshkar, followed by Dr Amitabh Bachchan. And now it's Dr Shabana Azmi. The actress has recently been honoured by a doctorate from the University of Leeds. This will be the second doctorate that the actress has received. The first being from the Jadavpur University in Kolkata. The felicitation is on Jun 9th and the actress has already left for England. It is a rare honour to be felicitated by a foreign university thus.

The Indian nightingale is the recipient of six honourary doctorates, while the Big B is the recipient of an honourary Doctorate of Arts by the De Montfort University of Leicester for his contribution to Indian cinema. Awards are recognition, is nothing new for Shabana, who has also received International Human Rights Award in 1989 along with Mother Theresa and the Gandhi International Peace Prize. But as the actress says, these awards are mainly for her work outside cinema. So they have another kind of value attached to them.
