Aamir Khan is coming back to the big screen after a gap of 4 years with Laal Singh Chaddha on August 11th. The film is an official Hindi adaptation of the Oscar-winning flick, Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks in the lead role. Directed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha also stars Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh, Manav Vij, and Naga Chaitanya. Aamir, who is excited about his return to the silver screen, opened up about the film, his role and some more details in the recent media interaction. Let's have a look at the major highlights.
Aamir Khan's last film, Thugs Of Hindostan, was released in November 2018, and after that, on January 1, 2019, he posted a new year resolution on twitter. One of the texts in the tweet said, "Make my best film yet." The fans have been sharing screenshots of the same for the last 2 years. When asked if that was written for Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan told Movie Talkies, "Wo to yaar Maine aise hi likh diya tha. (I wrote it just like that.) Just like other people write about doing their best in the New Year. I have made the film I wanted to; now I just hope that the audience likes it."
Since the trailer's release, people have been comparing Aamir Khan's previous roles in Dhoom 3 and PK with Laal Singh Chaddha. Explaining the same, Aamir shared, "I think people need to see the film before coming to a conclusion. The only common factor that I can see between the character of Laal Singh Chaddha and what I played in PK and Dhoom 3, is the fact that they were all innocent characters, so I believe one can show innocence in a certain way."
"There are many differences that you will see in the film. There is a similarity in both my films because the characters are innocent. But Laal is different. We have managed to make the film we want to. Let’s see what the audience says," he added.
"I had to grow my beard. Getting into the mind of the character was the main job. To get the innocence is very difficult, especially when you have been through so much in life. I wanted to make this film because I saw his (Laal Singh's) strength is his innocence. It's not just an actor beating up men. I wanted Indians to see it," Aamir Khan spoke about the character and challenges he had to face for Laal Singh Chaddha.
How did Kareena Kapoor come on board? Aamir answered, "The casting director showed us some actors, and we saw Kareena by mistake there. We wanted to cast her as a 26-year-old woman who could pass for both young and old. And then we decided on her. I am very happy she is our Rupa. We don't have that foreign culture here (like Forrest Gump). So her role altered, as per what is relevant to our society. She is a good actress and I have worked with her previously in 3 Idiots and Talaash, so we have that bond."
