Bhanu Athaiya
Costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, who became the first Indian to win an Oscar, passed away on Thursday. She was 91.
The veteran designer died at her home after prolonged illness. Born in Kolhapur, Bhanu Athaiya started her career as a costume designer with Guru Dutt's 1956 super hit C.I.D. She won the Academy Award for her work in 1983 release Gandhi.
Her last rites were conducted at the Chandanwadi crematorium in Mumbai. We at MovieTalkies offer our condolences to her family.
