Filmmaker Prashant Nair's independent film Umrika, which stars Suraj Sharma (of Life Of Pi fame) bagged the audience award in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival, which concluded on Sunday.
Directed by Prashant Nair and jointly produced by Manish Mundra (of Aankhon Dekhi fame) and Swati Shetty, Umrika is about a young village boy who discovers that his brother, long believed to be in the US, has actually gone missing. In order to save their mother from heartbreak, he begins to invent letters on his behalf, even as he keeps searching for his brother.
Umrika is Nair's second feature film after the critically acclaimed Delhi In A Day.
