War 2
War 2 scores. Lowest Monday in Spy Universe:
Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR’s much-hyped action spectacle War 2 has stumbled badly at the box office, delivering the lowest Monday numbers for YRF’s Spy Universe. Despite a decent start during its opening weekend, the film witnessed a sharp crash on its first weekday, collecting only ₹6.5 crore (non-holiday) on Monday.
For comparison, previous films in the Spy Universe have maintained far stronger momentum. Ek Tha Tiger had collected ₹20 crore on its Monday (holiday), while Tiger Zinda Hai soared with ₹36.5 crore on Christmas day. Hrithik’s first outing in War also managed a solid ₹20.5 crore (holiday). More recently, Pathaan earned ₹24.51 crore on a non-holiday Monday, and Tiger 3 scored a massive ₹57 crore thanks to a festive release and National holiday.
Against this, War 2’s sharp drop has raised concerns about its long-term box office performance. The film, which had generated enormous buzz due to the Hrithik Roshan–Jr. NTR pairing and high-octane action, now faces an uphill battle to recover its momentum.
Trade analysts point out that the non-holiday factor contributed to the dip, but the steep fall from its weekend numbers suggests mixed word of mouth. Sustaining collections over the next few weekdays will be crucial for the film to remain afloat, especially considering the huge budget of the film.
While YRF’s Spy Universe has so far delivered several blockbusters, War 2’s underwhelming weekday numbers mark a rare stumble in the franchise. All eyes are now on how the film performs over the extended week. It might as well end up being the first flop in the franchise.
