How to Train Your Dragon First Week Box Office Update:
The live-action remake of the beloved How to Train Your Dragon franchise is doing lukewarm business at the Indian box office. Despite the popularity of the original animated films, the new adaptation has failed to create major buzz or attract footfalls in India. The film managed to earn around ₹9 crore over its opening weekend, which was decent, but weekday collections have been underwhelming.

From Monday through Wednesday, it added just ₹3.5 crore, and Thursday is expected to contribute another ₹1 crore, taking its total first-week collection to approximately ₹13.5 crore. These numbers are far from impressive, especially considering the franchise's global appeal and the expectations riding on this high-budget remake. The upcoming weekend will be even tougher because of new releases like Sitaare Zameen Par and Elio.
The Dreamworks Animation Production, which was distributed by Universal Pictures in India, was expected to tap into both nostalgia and curiosity, given its transition from animation to live-action, but that hasn't translated into strong box office numbers in India. With a limited audience response and new releases on the horizon, the film is now aiming for a ₹20 crore lifetime total—a number insufficient to earn it a 'HIT' tag.

This marks yet another Hollywood release that has struggled to resonate with Indian audiences, proving once again that brand familiarity alone isn't enough. Without a strong second weekend boost, How to Train Your Dragon will likely close out as a mediocre performer in the region.
