Sanam Teri Kasam has released and managed a good escalation in collections over the weekend. Considering the fact that the film features absolute newcomers with no Bollywood connections from past or present, the film is putting up a fight at the least. Moreover, what is being universally acknowledged as the mainstay of the film are the music and the visuals. Considering the fact that director duo of Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru is famous for a 100% strike rate when it comes to these factors, it is not a surprise for Sanam Teri Kasam either.

"When we decided to make a love story, ek baat toh pucci thi that music chartbuster hona chahiye tha," says Vinay, "For a love story, music needs to have a soul; especially when you are making it with newcomers. Pick up any of these legendary love stories - Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Aashiqui, Maine Pyaar Kiya - their music is original. You can't copy it from one setting to another; it has to belong to your film. Aap aisa nahi kar sakte ki Sanam Teri Kasam mein Aashiqui kind of music daal do."

This led to quite some brainstorming for the director duo.

"Radhika and I were battling about the kind of music we needed for Sanam Teri Kasam. Our story demanded a musical soul. At that time we were shooting songs for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. We were with Himesh (Reshammiya) on the sets. He said to us that since you are planning a film, why don't you share with me its gist in a line. We did that and he set up time with us for the next day. We were surprised to know that he had recorded a song with Arijit Singh, 'Tera Chehra', already. That was the first song that he played to us. We knew there and then that we had found the 'sur' of our film."

This isn't where it was all sorted out though, since there were bigger challenges to be taken care of.

"While we knew that Himesh was the perfect man for the job, we had another hurdle to cross. The love story of Sanam Teri Kasam is sealed with a curse. We told Himesh that this is the 'saar' of the film. He said that since curse means 'baddua' in Hindi, let me come up with something around that. We weren't too sure since 'baddua' is a negative word but Himesh just asked us for a couple of days before he returns with the title song. This is when he narrated to us the line 'Betahasha dil ne, tujhko hi chaaha hai, har duaa mein maine, tujhko hi maanga hai, tera jaana jaise koi baddua'.

Of course, Radhika and Vinay were blown away with what they heard.

"We always wanted to integrate this curse element in the music of Sanam Teri Kasam but were never too sure how we would do that. However, Himesh made that possible. All credit goes to him. Now he has given us seven smashing chartbusters and we couldn't be happier," smiles Vinay before signing off.
