A private jet carrying Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, crashed near Baramati Airport on Wednesday morning, killing him and four others on board. The aircraft was a Bombardier Learjet 45 flying from Mumbai to Baramati for his planned political engagements when the tragedy occurred.

The flight took off from Mumbai around 8:10 am. As the jet approached Baramati, dense morning fog and poor visibility made landing difficult. The pilots first tried to land on Runway 11 but could not see the runway clearly, so they aborted the first attempt and pulled the aircraft back up.

After circling and waiting for conditions to improve, the pilots made a second approach. This time, the runway appeared in sight, but soon after descending, the plane lost control before touching down. It veered off course and overturned, crashing near the runway threshold. CCTV footage from the scene showed the aircraft hit the ground, followed by explosions, heavy flames, and thick black smoke rising as the wreckage burned.

Eyewitnesses described the aircraft as unstable during the final moments, with the impact and subsequent blasts making any rescue efforts impossible.

The crash also claimed the lives of two pilots and two of Pawar’s aides.
