Housefull 5 Hits ₹150 Crore Mark:

Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5 has crossed the ₹150 crore nett mark in India after two weeks, but the film is still far from being called a box office HIT. Despite these numbers, the film’s high budget means it hasn’t recovered enough to be declared a clean HIT; though, it would be labeled an “Average” grosser.  

The film collected ₹113 crore nett in its first week, followed by another ₹37 crore nett in its second week, taking the total to around ₹150 crore nett. The drop in the second week was significant and prevented the film from hitting the 200 crore club. Housefull 4 achieved that with far fewer screens in 2019. The performance of the fifth film in the Housefull franchise falls short when compared to the film’s high production and marketing costs.

Trade experts expect Tarun Mansukhani's directorial to finish its lifetime business at around ₹170 crore nett. However, a sharp drop is anticipated in the third week as Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par hits theaters, diverting audience attention. This makes Housefull 5 the first film in the popular comedy franchise to not emerge as a hit. All previous Housefull films enjoyed commercial success, making this underperformance a surprise for both fans and the makers.

Despite a star-studded cast and brand value, the film couldn't meet expectations. With high costs and only decent footfalls, the gap between earnings and recovery is too wide, keeping the film far from the 'hit' status it aimed for. The industry was in dire need of a hit film since the sequels have generated good money at the box office, but Housefull 5 failed due to its poor content.
