The rumour doing the rounds is that David Dhawan's Hook Ya Crook, which has been written by writer turned director Rensil D'Silva, is actually based on Hollywood flick, The Longest Yard. But Rensil is believed to have denied it.
The man who wrote the story of Rakesh Mehra's Rang De Basanti, has now turned director, and is directing his first film, which is based on terrorism, for Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. The film is yet untitled and stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. According to Rensil, the only resemblance between both Hook Ya Crook, which stars John Abraham and Kay Kay Menon among others, is the fact that both movies deal with prisoners making a getaway from jail. The resemblance end there. It seems that Dhawan has erected quite a set at Ramoji Rao Film city in Hyderabad for his film. Meanwhile Rensil is all poised to shoot the next schedule of his film in New York. The film has already had extensive schedules in Philidelphia and New Delhi. It seems that New York is where the story is set and there is no way that they can avoid the city, even though the makers realise that there may be problems in getting permission to shoot.
