Akhtar will play an aspiring Bhojpuri actor in the movie and he is shown as a big Manoj Tiwari fan in it. Farhan prepared for over a month to get into the skin of his character. According to sources close to the project, it was the freshness of the character which attracted him to the movie as no other Bollywood star has played an aspiring Bhojpuri actor on the big screen till date. Lucknow Central follows the story of a few jail inmates, who rekindle their love for music and form a band in prison with the help of an NGO worker, played by Diana Penty. The movie is slated to release on September 15.
