Gurinder Chadha Raves About ‘The Black Prince’, Reveals She Wanted To Make It

The London premiere of director Kavi Raz’s Shabana Azmi, Jason Flemyn and Satinder Sartaaj starrer The Black Prince was recently held at The British Film Institute and it impressed everyone with its intriguing plot and power-packed performances.

The premiere was attended by the likes of Gurinder Chadha, Ashutosh Gowariker and cricketer Harbhajan Singh among others and they were all praise for the period drama. Sartaaj is playing the role of Maharaja Duleep Singh and Shabana Azmi is essaying the role of his mother, Maharani Jindan Kaur. Praising Sartaaj’s performance, Gurinder Chadha said, “It was a performance from a real poet. It is a moving movie of a man and his spiritual journey.”

gu-sing-2Chaddha revealed that she wanted to make a movie on this subject ten years ago but somehow things didn't materialize. Praising the film, she said that it will take the viewers through the heart-rending ups and downs of Maharaja Duleep Singh’s life. She further added that it is 'painful, uplifting and soulful', all at the same time.

The movie is slated to release on July 21.
