Gully Boy Sequel in the Works:
Six years after Gully Boy became a box office hit, a sequel to the popular rap drama is finally in development! But this time, it’s coming with a fresh cast, a new story, and a different director at the helm.
Gully Boy (2019), starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and Siddhant Chaturvedi, won hearts across the country with its gritty portrayal of the Indian underground rap scene. The film was directed by Zoya Akhtar and co-written by Reema Kagti, who are now back to write the story for Gully Boy 2.
However, the sequel won’t continue Murad’s (Ranveer Singh) journey. Instead, it will explore the story of a brand-new rapper, offering another perspective from India’s vibrant hip-hop culture. Filmmaker Arjun Varain Singh, who made his directorial debut with Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, has been brought on board to direct the sequel.

A source close to the project told Mid-Day, “With Gully Boy, Zoya and Reema brought on screen not only the struggles and perseverance of Indian rappers, but also the wide class divide. They felt the theme could lend itself to a sequel as there are many such rich stories to be explored.”
“The film is in prep. If all goes as planned, it will roll by the year-end. Arjun showed depth in his directorial debut, and Zoya felt he was the right person to take this franchise ahead,” added the insider.
