It is a clash of ghosts at the box office this weekend, what with Ragini MMS 2 and Gang of Ghosts taking on each other. While former is a horror affair with liberal dose of sex, latter is a comic outing despite a ghost setting to it. The Sunny Leone starrer is a sequel to Ragini MMS while Satish Kaushik directed affair is a remake of a Bengali hit Bhooter Bhabishyat.
For audience it is going to be an interesting audience, though the footfalls would be clearly split. Due to its unabashed adult theme and an adults only certificate to boast of, Ragini MMS 2 would primarily have youth frequenting it. On the other hand due to its inherent comic feel, Gang of Ghosts would be for the family audience.
On its release, Ragini MMS had taken a decent opening and had turned into a surprise success. There won't be any surprises though if the film's sequel opens even bigger, what with presence of Sunny Leone, chartbuster songs and promise of some good chills-n-thrills heating up the promotion. The film should enjoy a good weekend for itself and open better than most of the recent mid-budget films released this year.
On the other hand Gang of Ghosts has an ensemble cast with veterans (Anupam Kher, Saurabh Shukla) leading the comic flavor and youngsters (Sharman Joshi, Parambrata, Mahie Gill, Meera Chopra) following suit. With word of mouth coming into play, the film has the potential to find audience for itself as the weekend progresses. With not much competition from early weeks, it would boil down to the battle between Gang of Ghosts and Ragini MMS 2 this week.
The other two releases, Lakshmi and Aankhon Dekhi, are the kind of films that can fetch some footfalls post critical appreciation and good reviews. Being niche in appeal, they would be arriving on limited screens.
