FICCI confirms corporate bookings in Bollywood :
Bollywood has been experiencing turbulence in the post-pandemic era. The box office numbers decreased, leading some producers and actors to find new strategies to boost these figures. Hence, corporate bookings and self-buying of tickets began to achieve certain targets at the ticket windows.

Corporate bookings and self-buying have occurred for both flop movies and hit movies. Flop movies have pursued this tactic to shield themselves from being deemed a failure, while hit movies have done it to reach specific milestones in box office collections. For example, a particular film might be predicted to be a hit or super hit; however, they want to elevate it to a blockbuster. Similarly, if they know that a certain film is headed toward becoming a blockbuster, they then aim to make it a record grosser or an all-time blockbuster.
Such practices have complicated the ability to ascertain the real figures, and sadly, we lack an authentic source like Rentrak to ensure transparency in box office data. Many industry insiders have been discussing these malpractices for some time—sometimes indirectly and sometimes directly—but has that changed anything in Bollywood? The answer is no. Now, there are official statements from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, aka FICCI, to confirm this issue. Many who would not believe it will have to take it seriously now.
In the recent M&E report shared by FICCI, they clearly stated that there is an increase in corporate bookings and self-buying of tickets in the Bollywood industry. "Some studios we met believed that the practice of producers or distributors purchasing tickets for their own movies to show a better opening performance had increased," FICCI said in the report.
