Award winning art director, Samir Chanda left for his heavenly abode yesterday, as he succumbed to a fatal heart attack. Reportedly, the heart attack was a reaction caused due to a pain killer that he had taken to curb his toothache.
Samir Chanda started his career with Subhash Ghai's Ram Lakhan, in 1989. And then there was no looking back, he worked with the likes of Mani Ratnam (Dil Se, Guru, Raavan), Shyam Benegal (Zubeidaa, Bose, Welcome to Sajjanpur), Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Rang De Basanti ,Delhi 6) and Vishal Bhardwaj (Omkara, Kaminey, 7 Khoon Maaf). 53-year-old Chanda also directed a movie, "Ekti Nodir Golpo" starring Mithun Chakraborty.
B-town was shocked to hear the sad news of the national award winning, art director's demise.
Celebs who have worked with him tweeted their condolences on Twitter.
Samir was working with Shirish Kunder for his film Joker, which is still under production. A shocked Kunder, wrote, "RIP Samir Chanda. Was working with him on JOKER. We just met last evening to discuss designs for next schedule. Am shocked!"
Priyanka Chopra who has worked with him in 7 Khoon Maaf tweeted, "RIP Samir Chanda. Had the good fortune of knowing the incredible man he was in Kaminey and Saat khoonmaaf. Thank u for always believing in me"
Anupam Kher said, "Sad and shocked to knw about d sudden demise of Samir Chanda. One of d most brilliant art directors in d country. And a great person. RIP."
