Directed by Vishal Furia, Chhorii stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Mita Vashisht, Rajesh Jais, Yaaneea Bharadwaj and Saurabh Goyal. Vishal, who also directed the original marathi version Lapachhapi, has revealed some exciting details about Chhorii in an media interaction after the trailer launch.
When asked when he first thought about this hindi remake, he said, "The story is very global, it's a very Universal story but as we know Bollywood makes the same horror films with songs and romance. I didn't want to do that; I wanted to make a pure horror film. So I made a small film in Marathi Lapachhapi because the Marathi audience is more curved towards content cinema and the film did well. The female audience especially liked it and then the international success of the film gave me an idea about the hindi remake. I wanted to create a film for a larger audience and then I met the producers and things worked out just fine."
How did Nushrrat come on board? He replied, "I knew that if I want to tell the story to a wider audience then I need a bigger name because the film would get wider reach through that. I was looking for an artist who looks simple and connects to the youth audience so Nushrratt was the first name that came to my mind. She has that hunger to do good work and that hunger is very important especially when it comes to Horror films. And a film like Chhorii demands a lot from you physically, mentally and emotionally. So when I spoke to Nushrratt I felt that she could do it and even my producers had the same opinion. That's how Nushrratt Bharuccha came on board."Like he said, he wanted to add something more in the hindi remake as he revealed, "Yes, i have added some extra in this film. Even the audience who have seen Lapacchapi will find something different in this film. They will find some new experiences, the new ways we have treated some scenes in Chhorii. I shot Lapachhapi 5 years ago, and then I shot Chhorii in 2020. The gap changes everything. The audience and their perspective changes so i got a chance to do better things with the new cast and my producers."
The film solely rides on Nushrratt Bharuccha's stardom, as it does not have any big male star in the film. Replying to why he didn't go for an A-list star, Vishal said, "I didn't want to go with an A-list star because this kind of story needed a less glamorous face, a grounded actor who takes the film to a realistic zone. I wanted to cut the glamorous portion of Nushrratt and to level with that I wanted to go with a less glamorized face. That's why I chose an actor who is not that popular but very sincere looking."
"I don't know about other filmmakers but if people like this particular film, then I myself will be encouraged to tell more stories. There are many filmmakers who want to tell honest horror stories and we are kind of lagging behind so if people accept this film then definitely we will get to see more stories like this in the horror genre," he concluded when asked if he feels that Chhorii can change Horror genre in Bollywood.
