Avatar The Way of Water
Avatar The Way of Water Re-release flops:
James Cameron’s Avatar The Way of Water returned to Indian cinemas on October 2, 2025, but the response has been far from impressive. Despite being one of the most successful Hollywood films ever in India, the re-release has failed to draw audiences this time. The film barely crossed the ₹5 crore mark and couldn’t even touch ₹10 crore, signaling a disappointing outcome for Disney India.
The studio’s decision to re-release Avatar: The Way of Water around the same time as Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Kantara Chapter 1 seems to have backfired. Both these Indian releases dominated the box office, leaving very little room for Cameron’s visual spectacle to shine again. The re-release was also limited to select screens, which further restricted its box office potential.
Actress Trisha Krishnan Reacts To News About Her Wedding; Talks about Honeymoon –
Originally released in December 2022, Avatar The Way of Water was a massive blockbuster in India. It earned over ₹370 crore nett, becoming the highest-grossing Hollywood film in the country’s history. Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, and Kate Winslet, the film captivated audiences with its stunning visuals and emotional storytelling.
However, the weak performance of the re-release has raised questions about audience appetite for older titles, even from globally loved franchises. As fans now await Avatar Fire and Ash, slated to release on Christmas 2025, the big question remains — can James Cameron recreate the magic once again, or has the enthusiasm for Pandora’s world cooled down in India?
