Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh released the music video for his new track Kufar (from his new album) on 14 October 2025, featuring former Miss World and now Bollywood actress Manushi Chhillar. While the song and visuals were highly anticipated, a specific sequence in the video sparked backlash online. See it below:

In this sequence, Manushi appears leading a group in yoga-inspired choreography. Dressed in a pink jumpsuit with feather-boots, she performs poses such as leg-raises (Uttanpadasana) and one-leg raises (Eka Pada Uttanpadasana).

Netizens allege that the yoga aesthetic has been “sexualised” rather than shown as a purely spiritual or fitness practice. Many social media users expressed disappointment, saying that the video turned one of women’s safe spaces (yoga practice) into something unnecessary or exploitative.

Diljit responded to the criticism in an Instagram live, stating that he was not involved in choreographing the video and that the dance moves were handled by the creative team. Manushi, meanwhile, shared a public comment while reacting to a social media trol about her career graph: “I’ve always admired people who value education. But I’ve also learnt that wisdom lies in respecting every form of art and expression.” 

The incident raises larger questions about representation of yoga in popular culture. Should yoga stays strictly a wellness/spiritual practice, or is its reinterpretation for artistic or entertainment use acceptable?
