Diana Penty's 'Happy Bhag Jayegi' Opens On The Same Lines As Sonam Kapoor's 'Dolly Ki Doli' And 'Khoobsurat'

As predicted in this column a couple of days back, Happy Bhag Jayegi was the kind of film that would done well primarily on the basis of word of mouth. This is what happened as the film showed lesser footfalls in the morning and afternoon shows but started seeing some sort of momentum in collections as the family crowds started trickling in the evening and night shows. This showed in some fair numbers that came in, what with the Mudassar Aziz directed film collecting 2.32 crore.

Though these are not the kind of numbers that would have the makers Aanand L. Rai> take it easy in a matter of one day itself. Still, decent to good reviews coupled with laughs that were evidenced in the theaters mean some growth at the least is definitely on the cards. Since it is a family film, Happy Bhag Jayegi at least has an opportunity of seeing an escalation of sorts in rest of the weekend.

The film can be compared with similar genre films like Khoobsurat <2.75 crore> and Dolly Ki Doli <2.5 crore> which too had collected in the same range. However, both of these Sonam Kapoor starrers were a little more expensive affair than the Diana Penty starrer. Since the word of mouth of Happy Bhag Jayegi is better than Dolly Ki Doli at the least, one expects a better weekend on the cards.

Currently, it is a wait and watch period for the frothy entertainer that has Jimmy Sheirgill and Abhay Deol coming up with one of their best acts.
