Diana Penty removed from Rockstar:

Before making her Bollywood debut with Cocktail, Diana Penty had nearly landed a major role opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar. In a recent interview with Hauterfly, the actress opened up about how she was considered for the female lead but was ultimately not cast by director Imtiaz Ali. Diana shared her journey of nearly becoming part of the film and how the decision left her both disappointed and relieved.

Recalling how it all began, Diana said, “I was in New York modelling when I got a call from my agency that Imtiaz Ali was looking for a new face for his film Rockstar. Acting was never something I had seriously considered. But I agreed to fly back and meet him.”

She further shared, “Imtiaz explained the role and asked me to do look tests. I was honest with him—I had no acting experience and didn’t know if I could do justice to it.”

Despite her doubts, she was encouraged to attend acting workshops. After a few weeks, the director gave her his final decision.

“Imtiaz said, ‘You’ve improved a lot, but I don’t think you’re ready to play this role yet. Maybe it’s too soon for you,’” Diana recalled.

Though she missed the opportunity, Diana admitted, “In a way, I was relieved because I didn’t feel confident either,” and she returned to New York to continue modelling.
