Delhi High Court Orders R. Madhavan's Obscene Content To Be Removed:

The Delhi High Court has taken a significant step to protect Dhurandhar actor R. Madhavan’s personality rights by ordering the removal of obscene and objectionable content linked to him from the internet. The interim order was passed on December 22, 2025, by Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, who granted legal relief in response to a civil suit filed by the actor.

The court’s order restrains websites and digital platforms from using Madhavan’s name, image, likeness, and other personality traits without his consent and directs the take-down of obscene material circulating online. Senior Advocate Swathi Sukumar, representing Madhavan, informed the court that several defendants had allegedly circulated deepfake and AI-generated videos, including fake trailers for non-existent films such as Kesari 3 and Shaitaan Chapter 2, falsely associating them with the actor.

The judge highlighted concerns over the selective removal of content by platforms and questioned why some infringing material remained accessible online despite earlier takedown requests. The court also imposed an injunction against the sale of unauthorised merchandise exploiting Madhavan’s identity, citing both commercial misuse and obscenity as grounds for restraint. 

Before approaching the High Court, Madhavan’s legal team had already contacted social media platforms to report the harmful content, with some infringing material already taken down. The matter has been listed for further hearing in May 2026 as broader legal issues around AI-generated content continue to be examined.
