Deepika had starred in the 2024 sci-fi epic alongside Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan, playing the character “SUM-80” (Sumati). But after her exit from the sequel, fans discovered her name was removed from the credits roll on streaming versions – leading to debate whether it was a glitch or a deliberate removal. 

Social media erupted with criticism as users called the move “unprofessional” and “petty”. Some shared screen-grabs showing Deepika’s name missing, while others defended the makers suggesting it might have been an oversight.

It was earlier officially announced by the production house that Deepika would not be part of the sequel to Kalki, citing commitment issues and a need for “more committed” talent. A similar controversy took place between Deepika and Sandeep Reddy Vanga for Spirit, led by Prabhas. Now, Tripti Dimri has replaced Padukone in that film, while Kalki 2 is yet to find a new actress. 

At present, the makers of the film, Vyjayanthi Movies, have not issued a statement clarifying why her credit was removed from the OTT version. Fans of Deepika continue to express disappointment. The controversy has reignited discussions about actor credits and respect in big-budget productions.
