Deepika padukone is playing an acid-attack survivor in her upcoming film Chhapaak and the trailer of the Meghna Gulzar-directed movie was unveiled today.
DeePee is playing Malti a woman, whose face is hurles with acid by a young guy, who claims to be her boyfriend. The beautiful Malti breaks down after seeing her face post the acid attack and throws away all her jewellery and accessories because ‘kaan nahi hai, naak nahi hai, jhumke kahan latkaungi?’
She gets further rebuked by the cops for having phone numbers of a lot of boys in her mobile phone. Once again the victim is projected as the culprit. However, she decides to fight against the injustice meted out to her after getting support from a few female activists and Amol (Vikrant Massey), who stands by her side throughout her fight against the perpetrators of the heinous crime. How Malti fights this battle with her sheer courage and indomitable spirit forms the rest of the plot.
The film is inspired by acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal’s life and DeePee has done full justice to the role. Right from her make-up, to her intense emotions, she has nailed the character. Vikrant Massey too is sincere as is the rest of the cast. The trailer moved us immensely and now we are eagerly waiting to see the film on the big screen.
Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is slated to release on January 10.
