Deepika Padukone is reportedly in early talks to play the female lead in Mahavatar, the much-anticipated mythological drama starring Vicky Kaushal and directed by Amar Kaushik.

According to a production insider speaking to Mid-Day, “The team has been looking for someone who can bring gravitas and emotional depth to the role written opposite Parashurama. Deepika fits that space perfectly.” Conversations have begun, but they remain at an early stage — with Deepika just one of the top names the studio is considering.

Mahavatar, which centres on the immortal warrior Parashurama, was first announced in November 2024. If the deal goes through, it would mark the first time Deepika and Vicky Kaushal share screen space — a pairing that has intrigued fans given both stars’ strong body of work.

Importantly, the makers emphasise that the female lead will have “equal footing” in the narrative, signalling a robust, substantial role rather than a token romantic interest.  Meanwhile, Mahavatar remains in pre-production, with scripting reportedly complete and extensive work underway on set and character design.

For now, Deepika’s involvement remains speculative. But if confirmed, her presence could lend the project not just star power, but also the emotional depth the producers are hunting for — potentially elevating Mahavatar into one of Bollywood’s most eagerly awaited epics.
