German filmmaker Wolfgang Petersen passed away at the age of 81 on August 12, 2022. The director died of pancreatic cancer at his home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, United States. His production company member confirmed the news today.Wolfgang Peterson rose to prominence with the German World War II classic Das Boot (1981), which was based on officers' experiences on the German submarine U-96. The film won him plenty of nominations and critical acclaim. He then made his first English-language film, The NeverEnding Story (1984).In The Line of Fire(1993) gave him the much-needed box office boost he needed to make another suspense thriller, Outbreak (1995). Peterson's collaboration with Harrison Ford was highly successful with the blockbuster business of Air Force One (1997). After that, he delivered two back-to-back box office hits, The Perfect Storm (2000) and Troy (2004). We pray for his soul. May God rest his soul in peace in heaven.
