Controversy's Child Rakhi Sawant Turns Year Older

In a perfect world, Rakhi Sawant's middle name could well have been 'controversy'. This 'item', who has always been in the news for her raunchy dance moves and bold statements to the press, made her Bollywood debut with the 1999 movie Joru Ka Ghulam but shot to instant fame with an item song mohabbat hai mirchi in the Zayed Khan starrer film Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne.

Once the song became a hit, there was no looking back for Rakhi Sawant, who since then, has appeared as an item song dancer in not only Hindi films but also in Kannada, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil films. Apart from the item songs, Rakhi has also featured in the video of many music albums.

Apart from a performer, Rakhi also appeared as a contestant in many reality shows and is also a television presenter. Her show 'Rakhi Ka Insaaf' was banned from airing after a contestant committed suicide following Rakhi's usage of words like 'impotent' while addressing him. Rakhi Sawant is a full member of the International Film and Television Club of Asian Academy of Film and Television.

Rakhi Sawant recently created a storm when she blasted hit flick The Dirty Picture by terming it full of 'b**bs, sex and exposure' and accusing the Censor Board of having double standards when they came down heavily on some risque lines of her item song in the film Loot.
