Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer has surpassed the opening day figures of Paramount India's Mission Impossible 7 at the Indian box office. The Tom Cruise starrer belongs to a franchise, while Nolan's biographical drama was a fresh project with no mass elements involved. Yet, Oppenheimer smashed MI 7 at the Indian box office.
Oppenheimer sold approx. 2 lacs tickets in advance booking, which is the biggest advance sale for any fresh Hollywood movie in India. It's proven that Nolan is a bigger brand than Tom Cruise and the MI series in India. MI 7 had a Wednesday opening with no competition, while Oppenheimer had a regular Friday opening against Barbie.
Cillian Murphy's starrer Oppeheimer collected over Rs. 14.50 crore in India on the opening day. It surpassed the opening day figures of MI 7, i.e., 11.75 crore. On the other hand, Barbie had a decent opening in the range of 4.50 crore against Oppenheimer's hysteria. Looking at the advance bookings for Saturday and Sunday, these two films are all set to enjoy a good run in the opening week.
