China Opposes Battle Of Galwan:
China has openly criticised the upcoming Bollywood film Battle of Galwan, starring Salman Khan, accusing it of distorting history and stirring anti-China sentiment, according to reports in the Global Times, a Chinese state-run newspaper.

The controversy erupted after the film’s teaser was released on December 27 (on Khan's birthday), ahead of its scheduled April 2026 release. Battle of Galwan is based on the violent June 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley along the disputed Line of Actual Control (LAC). In the film, Salman Khan portrays an Indian Army officer, Col. Santosh Babu, a role that has attracted significant attention but also criticism abroad.

In its editorial, the Global Times labelled the movie an “over-the-top” and “nationalistic melodrama,” claiming that its narrative contradicts Beijing’s official account of the 2020 clash. Chinese analysts quoted in the report stressed that no cinematic portrayal can change China’s view of the incident, asserting that Indian troops violated Chinese territory—a stance that sharply diverges from Indian and independent accounts of the events.

The Chinese coverage also mocked Salman Khan’s onscreen persona, suggesting the film’s portrayal of heroism and battlefield glory is unrealistic. The newspaper emphasised that cultural productions should not inflame diplomatic sensitivities, especially at a time when India-China relations have shown signs of cautious diplomatic engagement after years of border tensions.
For its part, Battle of Galwan remains one of Bollywood’s biggest releases, with supporters arguing that it honours the sacrifice of Indian soldiers and tells a story of courage from the 2020 conflict. Will it bring trouble for the film or the controversies will benefit the film? Only time will tell.
