Bollywood First Half 2024
Bollywood first half 2024 verdicts have seen three major hits, with several big-budget movies underperforming and flopping.
The first name is, of course, Fighter, which was released during Republic Day weekend and did not perform up to the mark. The film was one of the most-awaited films of 2024 and perhaps the only one that had such a huge cast for a fresh film. But alas. It didn't go to that level. Siddharth Anand's previous film, Pathaan (2023), scored a massive 512 crore nett on the same day last year. Fighter was assumed to score at least 300 crore nett, holding a potential up to 400 crore nett with the kind of budget, cast, and scale it had. However, the film made only 200 crore nett at the Indian box office, turning out to be an "AVERAGE" grosser. Interestingly, it remains the highest Bollywood grosser in the first half of 2024.
The February month saw a good success in the form of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, which came out as a big surprise. With the Buy 1 Get 1 offer hurting the returns on investment, the film emerged as a Semi-Hit with nett collections of 82.60 crore. Had there been no offer and the film had collected anything over 75 crore, it would have been a HIT film.
Two weeks later, Article 370 came as a huge surprise and emerged as the FIRST CLEAN HIT of 2024. It began with a Rs. 99 ticket offer, and with a certain political push and people's interest in Kashmir's story, the film minted 77 crore nett at the Indian Box Office.
Again, two weeks later, Ajay Devgn came up with a family drama and scored the biggest hit of 2024 (in terms of footfalls). The psychological horror family drama fell short of 150 crore nett by just 2 crore but ended up being a HIT. In the last week of March, Crew turned out to be another SUCCESS, collecting 81 crore nett in its lifetime run and getting the "AVERAGE" verdict.
April 2024 was a nightmare for Bollywood, as we got two huge disasters during the Eid festival. Made on the budget of 300–325 crore, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan collected only 59 crore nett, whereas Ajay Devgn's Maidaan did a business of Rs. 51 crore nett in the clash.
Srikanth survived in May 2024 and emerged as another success story, but couldn't make it up to the HIT verdict. In the last week, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi tried its fate and couldn't go past the unsuccessful tag. June wasn't expected to be a big month with the kind of lineup we had, but to everyone's surprise, Bollywood got its FIRST SUPER HIT of 2024 in the form of Munjya.
