Today, she could well be known most for her Pink act. However the fact remains that for Taapsee Pannu, it all started with an out and out commercial film Chashme Baddoor a few years back. Hence, though a few may be surprised to see her get into the song-n-dance mode for Judwaa 2, the true story is that she had seen it and done it all right from the beginning of her Bollywood career.
“It is just that she got most recognition when she did Pink,” an industry observer comments, “She nailed it perfectly right in the film as a central protagonist though soon enough she was being seen as this actress who meant serious business. Pun intended. Moreover, when this was followed by Naam Shabana, which was a prequel to Baby that actually brought her firmly into the Bollywood map, it started seeming that here was this girl who could well be seen primarily in films that required drama and action.”
No wonder, when in Judwaa 2 the opportunity came her way to lighten up and get into a quintessential Hindi film heroine avtar, it was irresistible for Taapsee Pannu.
“There was no way that she could have let go of this part,” a trade expert opines, “One thing that you definitely don’t want in Bollywood is to get stereotyped. A couple of more dramatic films that require you to demonstrate histrionics and you end up getting tagged. Moreover, her genesis has been commercial films. Even before her Hindi debut Chashme Baddoor, which by the way again was with her Judwaa 2 director David Dhawan, there were number of films that she had done South which had ‘masala’ entertainment at the core of it. Judwaa 2 has all the ingredients in there that set it up for success. It arrives 20 years after Judwaa and she plays a similar part that was enacted by Rambha in the Salman Khan starrer. She is already a part of timeless chartbusters Tan Tana Tan and Oonchi Hai Building. Varun Dhawan as a co-star definitely helps since he brings in his own fan base, what with 100% success rate so far. Last but not the least, when you work in a film that is put together by Nadiadwala Grandson, it only adds on to your repute as an actress.”
While there is a series of Hindi films that are already lined up for Taapsee in months to come, rest assured the actress would be happy to get going with Judwaa 2 right away, what with the industry betting on it to be a solid 100 crore affair. Presented by Fox, the film releases all over on 29th September.
