Controversial director Ram Gopal Varma, whose next venture is a dark murder story based on the infamous Neeraj Grover murder case which took place in 2008 unveiled the Rangeela song which will be played in the upcoming Not A Love Story starring Mahie Gill and Deepak Dobriyal. However, where the song which was made famous by former protégé of the director was a happy and 'full of life' number, the remade version has a haunting background score to it, which effectively sets a mood complementing the darker undertones of the movie.
Addressing media persons at the unveiling event at a suburban multiplex in Mumbai, Ram Gopal Varma said, "Both the songs are similar to an extent that the objective of achieving fame is the common factor in both the numbers as both the actresses in the songs play struggling actresses who want to make it big in the film industry. However, the original song was a happy and full of life song whereas the song in the Not A Love Story has a darker undertone to it, keeping in consideration the tragedy that befalls in the story."
The darker version of the song plays in the background of the scene which shows a starry eyed Mahie Gill harbouring ambitions about becoming a star and her relation with the actor playing Neeraj Grover which ends in a brutal murder.
Talking about playing the role of an alleged murderess, Mahie Gill who kept raving about her director's brilliance said, "I could identify with the role's struggling days as even I have been a struggler once upon a time. We had shot in the same building where the murder had taken place. However, we do not know what happened between the three of them and it would be wrong to pass any judgments on anyone."
