Karan Johar’s latest production venture Student Of The Year 2 is receiving criticism from all quarters of the society and poor word of mouth has affected the film's business to a great extent.
The film didn’t open on great notes and while biz was expected to soar over the weekend, it didn’t. KJo’s campus romance earned Rs. 12.06 crore on Friday, Rs. 14.02 crore on Saturday and Rs. 12.75 crore on Sunday. The total now stands at Rs. 38.83 crore, which is fairly low considering that it's an installment of a huge franchise and has big names attached to it.
The sixth phase of elections and the IPL finale also affected the business of the movie, which stars Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria in the lead roles. Weekdays will be crucial for the film as two big movies, De De Pyaar De and John Wick: Chapter 3 are releasing next weekend to give SOTY 2 a tough fight at the box-office.
Directed by Punit Malhotra, SOTY 2 is the sequel to Karan’s 2012 release Student Of The Year, which was the launch vehicle of Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan.
