After 58 cuts, while the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court cleared The Dirty Picture for television broadcasting, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry still feels the film is not fit to be aired at primetime. The Vidya Balan starrer biopic was slated to telecast on Sunday however, I&B Ministry stalled it and directed the channel to air it after 11:00 pm.
Bollywood is mighty upset with this decision and vented out their anger on Twitter and this is what they said:
Neha Dhupia: "The dirty picture telecast stopped? What's wrong with these babu's."
Ram Gopal Varma: "Stopping Dirty picture telecast is a classic example of the cat shutting its eyes nd pretending that no body is watching it."
Anubhav Sinha: "The government should announce that the censor board doesn't mean shit. Or they should start giving the certificates with asterisks."
Karan Johar: "A national award winning film cannot have a national telecast??? this is not an irony but plain and simple hypocrisy!!!! #dirtypicture. If the censorship is not a final authority then what is??? Complicated and blurred lines defeat the core of democracy!!!! #dirtypicture."
Emraan Hashmi: "Telecast ofa NationalAward winning film stopped on National TV despite U/A.& we r in a democracy.& we like different cinema #TheDirtyPicture."
Ken Ghosh: "Seriously, why bother with getting a censor certificate if some other authority or political party can override it. #thedirtypicture."
Tusshar Kapoor: "Really unfortunate that after all the necessary cuts and a valid UA certificate, The Dirty Picture could not be telecast today on sony tv."
Punit Malhotra: "So the ministers stop us from watching the Dirty Picture at home... But what about them watching porn in the assembly???"
Pritish Nandy: "Shutdown of The Dirty Picture telecast shows there is a clear hiatus between what we want to see and what the Govt wants us to see."
