'Bobby' Actress Dimple Kapadia Turns Year Older

An actress who landed her Bollywood debut in a Raj Kapoor film, Dimple Kapadia made her acting debut at the age of 16 in Bobby, where she was paired opposite Rishi Kapoor. The film was a success and young Dimple was lauded for effectively playing the role of an Anglo-Indian girl named Bobby Braganza, who falls in love with a rich man's son.

However, Dimple married superstar Rajesh Khanna by the time the film released and retired from acting to take on her duties as a home-maker, only to return back to acting after her separation from Khanna a few years later.

Her comeback film was Saagar, a love triangle starring Kamal Haasan and her Bobby' co-star Rishi Kapoor. The film, directed by Ramesh Sippy, was a major success and was eventually chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars that year.The film also attracted its share of controversy for some sensual scenes.

In the 80s, Dimple went on to play the female lead in many movies like Arjun, Janbaaz, Aitbaar, Kaash, Zakhmi Aurat and Ram Lakhan, to name a few.

The actress, known for her sensual scenes in films like Saagar and Janbaaz turned to serious acting in the 90s and was seen in films like Lekin, Rudaali, Prahaar, Gardish and Angaar. Dimple is also known for her role in Dil Chahta Hai, where she played the role of a lonely, middle aged alcoholic. Her recent films include Being Cyrus, Dabangg, Luck By Chance and Patiala House, where she played the role of her real life son-in-law Akshay Kumar's mother.
